Technically speaking, a switchless mod is impossible - there's something that switches it, even if it is a PIC or even software!

Do you mean like Lawrence's switchless mod?

Saturn has been the hardest emulated system. Youre not going to get the performance of an actual console. I say if youre already into emulation and want to play games, might as well just burn them and mod your system. Totally agree - IF you just want to play games. I'm not for "backups" -...

Well, even a little work every now and then on the project is better than no work at all! I'm pretty sure I have no documentation on XBand, but will check. I'll also try and get round to asking for any info. Incidentally, do you know who from Catapult has been contacted so far? Or indeed any ...

True. You need access to the FTP in order to upload the files, and the admin account to get it installed.

Yeah, I'm sure most people realize what a mammoth task it is. I'm not trying to be negative, merely practical. I've seen homebrew projects fall apart on far easier platforms than the Saturn. As much as I love the console, it is a difficult beast to get good results from. Of course, that makes...

So how was the disc?

In general, you can skim a disc if it has light to moderate scratches. If there's damage on the label side, forget it. You often find that with Saturn games - little picks where you can hold the disc up to the light and see through it.

I know some very good capture devices, but for $50 you're looking at an old capture card (WinTV or such) with an S-Video input.

The cheap alternative is to use an emulator.

I was supposed to have gone out some 20 minutes ago, but instead have been reading this thread with much interest! Could you give us a progress report on this? I would love to help, but unfortunately my time is very limited right now so I don't know how much help I'd be. I need to get hold of some X...

If you want to play imports, installing a switch is best (at least it is if you import PAL games too and want to run 50hz - as mad as that makes you!). The mod is actually very easy, although you'd want to brush up on your soldering skills first. You should be able to get a soldering kit at Radio Sh...

I noticed that the forum doesn't work very well on Internet Explorer 8 (now a critical update, so obviously Microsoft's recommended browser!). In particular, if you fully populate the text box when posting a topic (i.e. waffle on for ages!), the text box jiggles about, making it impossible to see wh...

I don't want to put anyone off, but programming for Saturn is no easy task! You really need to have knowledge of the following: SH2 assembler (and Sega's method of using dual SH"s) C programming SCU SMPC SVCSP VDP1 VDP2 There's some heavy reading involved in getting that knowledge! Back in the ...

Well, I only just stumbled across this site by chance.. to be honest, I'm surprised I didn't come across it sooner! There may be some who know me from other communities. My name is Mark, and I am the owner of saturn-planet.com (currently offline but I have plans for it when time permits). Hmm, what ...
