I wonder... could the software ever be made to communicate with an original XBAND device?

This is indeed an awesome video. Picture quality looks great, somewhere just behind LaserDisc, I'd say. However, from what I know about VCDs (my brother has burned a handful of movies to them for the novelty value, and because CD-Rs are still cheaper), they don't do well with scenes with a lot of mo...

Just a correction on that: The Sega Genesis was an abysmal failure in Japan. This was only due to the fact that the PC Engine beat it to the 16-bit punch, though, I think. The Dreamcast wasn't so hot either, compared to the Gamecube and PS2. The Saturn, though, inexplicably blew away all comers in J...

Just bought a Nyko Cobra light gun, compatible with Saturn and PS1. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, as my Saturn is currently disconnected, but it should be a great help to my Virtua Cop skills. I've always been good at Time Crisis in the arcade, light-gun games are my specialty. So, huzzah! N...

Personally, and you may think this odd, I think there should have been more 2D games, especially arcade ports, with NetLink support. A prime candidate, I think, would have been Strikers 1945. Up to four players (2 per involved console) battling for a high score could have been interesting. Not a kil...

I know that. But, unless I'm mistaken, the actual PLAY is direct-dial between two XBAND modems, correct? Once again , I must say that everything I'm saying here is purely speculative. I'm no communications technology expert. But, anyway, couldn't a device be constructed that, when you got your XBAND...

Huh, I wonder how collectible those pre-paid cards would be today... Anyway, no problem, and yeah, it would be. Just wishful thinking on my part, nothing more. Hmm. Y'know, I wonder if some kind of phone-box hack could fool and XBAND modem into thinking it had found another player... just idle specu...

Ruin my rose-tinted views, why don't you. I'm just thinking that the cards would have made it easier to track down the patches than having to rip them off old XBAND hardware. But, of course, I doubt the developers ever considered a situation like the one we're facing currently. And for the people pl...

Huh, elegantly simple... too bad there was so much proprietary stuff involved, which I understand is a big hindrance to reviving the service. It's too bad the modems didn't provide a "true" direct-dial service, like the NetLink. I heard that some prototype versions of the system read the g...

Game gear... nice system, even if it DOES gorge on batteries. Still, I have an AC adapter, and a crap-load of rechargeable AAs, so it's not such a huge deal for me anymore. I remember the bad old days, trying to bum money off my parents for batteries from my Game Boy Color... never again. The only t...

Say a nice g'bye to physical media, people, something tells me the current generation of consoles will be the last to have anything to do with it... ...it pisses me off more than anyone can imagine. Mark my words, I'm not abandoning discs, cartridges or memory cards without a HELL of a fight... ...I...
