This brings up another question. Where in the world are all of the former Genesis Xbanders hiding? I have found hundreds of SNES XBers, but only about 30 or 40 Genesis ones. And that's crazy too, because the Genesis modem came out much earlier.

For those of you that were on Xband, how many people were in your local area?

I was addicted to Super Mario Kart. We had a decent number of local players (around 10), but they were rather easy to beat once my friend and I got on Nationwide and started learning things from the XB SMK veterans.

NBA Jam TE was a blast too. I played a good amount of that locally.

Since my coding is extremely rusty, I'm continuing to work on promotion for Xband 2.0 Just posted a nostalgic link over on the Shoryuken forums, and I hope it will get some more of the original Xbanders coming out of the woodwork. http://shoryuken.com/f2/1996-xband-fighting-game-top-5-lists-scans-ti...

It's not the icon that I see under your name now, or are you trying to switch to another one icon?

Re: XBAND for the new generation...

Hello Guys... I would first like to say how excited I am that the XBAND dream is still alive. I've had XBAND guilds on multiple games since Catapult closed their doors so many years ago (Phantasy Star Online DC, EQOA PS2, WoW Spinbreaker server, etc). The dedication I've seen so far to this project...

*haha* One step at a time my friend. There is a LOT of work to do on all of the things in that list before ever getting the SNES /Sega Xband Modems working.

I just sent out an email to 92 former SNES xbanders about this project. Getting ready to send one out to some former Genesis xbanders. Hopefully this will help get the word out about the project.

The xmail menu song was one of my favorite on the Genesis version. I love the music because I spent so much time on it. But I feel like we got robbed when I heard the SNES music I loved the SNES music. I would leave Xband turned on the entire day during the summers and let that music rotate. Hey, h...

Here's some information on the subject from a guy named Larry who actually worked at Mpath when they purchased Catapult: I worked at Mpath (don't capitalize the p!) from early '96 to, oh, mid-2000. We bought Catapult in mid-late '96 IIRC. We actually continued running the XBand service for at least ...

Here's information that a former employee named Larry posted online: The big sticking point is the XBand modem connectivity. XBand used an ANI phone bank to handle incoming calls; these are still quite expensive, both in setup and in monthly running costs. Perhaps you could change this to a more dis...
