I HATE digital distribution and refuse to buy any game delivered in this form, so I'm really REALLY hoping that there will eventually be a disc rlease of Sonic 4 so I can give it a shot. FINALLY someone who agrees with me!! Welcome to the club, dude. It's a medium which might be hailed now, but we'...

Phone-line simulator, huh? Y'know, that would be a GREAT way to demo the NetLink at cons and stuff like that... raise awareness of the little black box.
Maybe inspire the mod community to develop NetLink patches for Saturn game ROMs.

Hardware most likely... still, maybe software. It's possible different cable services could set their own preferences on the unit prior to shipping. That would have been a big advantage.

Well, it WAS essentially a cable connection. And it was probably only one way, which helped I would imagine. As the Wikipedia article says, larger games had to be either cut down or broken up into separate downloads. As for operating channels, according to Wikipedia the modems were "tunable to ...

Not saying it's practical myself, either. I'm just putting the idea out there. Also, it'd give people who HAVE Sega Channel modems something to do other than letting these relics collect dust. As for games, it would probably be feasible to modify existing ROMs for Sega Channel compatibility, if, as ...

From what I can tell, the Sega Channel modem wasn't capable of communicating with an outside server directly. I'm pretty sure the menus and games were all downloaded off the cable connection each time the modem powered up. I imagine it would work off some kind of non-interactive recording, though up...

Not XBAND, Sega Channel.

This service, which, surprisingly, was successful enough to only be canceled upon the death of the Genesis hardware. It had a healthy number of subscribers, so I have learned, and was well liked. Sega Channel did not enable multiplayer, but was a game download service which streamed code and video d...

That's pretty much what I meant.
What I'm asking is, what are the MOST compatible pages that the Saturn's PlanetWeb browser can view?

NetLink Compatible Websites

I'm wondering. According to a few people, there are certain sites which can still be accessed by a NetLink modem.
Can anyone make a list of these sites? It would be a great way to "test-drive" a newly purchased NetLink, or simply get more functionality out of it besides playing games.

Also, I imagine none of the Saturn browsers are compatible with Flash and such.
Vast sections of the web wouldn't be viewable.
Y'know, that'd be an interesting project, making an updated browser for NetLink... still, I don't know anyone who can program for Saturn.

The NetLink works alright, given that it's a direct dial system that doesn't use servers. Still, you can't browse the web or use the forum on it anymore... BUT, if you have a digital phone service, long-distance play is gonna be iffy at best. The modem can't handle the level of lag a digital relay g...

Quake WITHOUT multiplayer? Well, that kinda sucks...
...can't say I'm surprised, though. That was a REALLY graphically intensive game. They probably couldn't spare the processing power for split-screen and a second character...

I'm still gonna see if I can track down Quake for Saturn.
