Xbox One Restrictions

IGN recently posted a Microsoft announcement that clarified restrictions that Microsoft will be imposing regarding used game sales and the Xbox One's internet connection requirement. It appears that the days of the Ebay game sales may be over, starting with the newer systems. Third party software producers will have the option of allowing game sales at specified retailers, on their terms. This applies to disc-based games as well. I suppose I should be grateful that Microsoft has allowed producers to give me permission to sell games that I buy, despite the fact that consumers purchasing physical copies of games have always been able to sell them at their leisure.

Regarding internet connection, the Xbox One cannot remain unconnected for more than a 24 hour period without prohibiting consumers from playing games.

I think this is the end of my days as a Microsoft console purchaser.

Yeah, That's crazy.

I consider that, if they can "lock" a television to work only in the power outlets of your house, they would do it. But they can't. In the moment they can do it, what is gonna make them "not do it"? The "digital stuff" that games became are prone to that "lock".

Ok, it's the technology that allows it. But, in my point of view, the market "can react" to that.
Look the Wii U. If Nintendo makes a profit (and that's very likely), I consider that the market can handle a lower-spec console. And with that, any corporation can explore it. Actually there are a market for "kid consoles". (Gun boy and many clones?)

The internet connection thing is not really an issue, imo. It sounds like gold for the developers, of course, but I don't believe that the games will be "lost" after the end of the generation. The multiplayer, ok, many servers were shut down before, like Microsoft's own Dungeon Siege, others don't, like Diablo, with more than ten years of online availability, but not the single player. They likely will release a patch.

About the sales thing. Anyone knows legally about current software? Like a Windows or Photoshop license? If these licenses can't be sold, I don't understant why games would be different. They're software. It's strange why they didn't that before. It's not cool, if this is the future of games, I really hope that new players enter the market with less sophisticated solutions, and less care about piracy.

What's driving this is that developers desperately want to get a piece of every transaction that occurs with their game software... even after the fact. Traditionally, under the "first sale doctrine," intellectual property made into physical form can be resold by the initial buyer without violating copyright law. In other words, in the absence of a contract that states otherwise, end users were always free to resell their books, music, movies, games, etc. at their leisure. Software producers hate this, because they feel that they have a right to the proceeds of every single transaction, despite our history reflected in the first sale doctrine.

By the way, it is only a matter of time, in my opinion, before the other hardware producers are on board with these restrictions as well.

Well I found out they have been listening to us and yesterday, They announced that you do not need to leave your internet on 24/7, and you can do anything with your disc based games like you do today. hope that clears your issues guys!

That's great!

They will treat it like the 360. So that should be enough for be on top of the next generation like they did in this one.

360 on top. LOL. The Ps3 has crept past the 360 in over all sales and objectively has the better library with more exclusives. Considering all the challenges the PS3 had and launching a year later than the 360 good for it coming in second place to Nintendo.

And no removing the DRM does not make the Xbone a viable system. It has weaker hardware and costs $100 more. Also with Microsoft being so gung ho with cooperating with law enforcement to eaves drop and the Kinect being an always on microphone and camera that can monitor your heart rate and if you're looking at the screen or not. The government can literally use the Xbone to see what makes your dong hard. Spooky shit.

Just think of the wonderful in game ads that will require you to watch the screen because the Kinect will make sure you watch it! Or having to say "DORITOS" before continuing after a load screen. Sounds like an awesome feature! Microsoft has patents for targeting ads based on your mood using the kinect.

"Russian law enforcement agencies have the ability to eavesdrop on Skype conversations, as well as have access to Skype users geographic locations. In many cases, simple request for information is sufficient, and no court approval is needed. This ability was deliberately added by Microsoft after Skype purchase in 2011 for the law enforcement agencies around the world. This is implemented through switching the Skype client for a particular user account from the client side encryption to the server side encryption, allowing dissemination of an unencrypted data stream."

There's still zero reason to get an Xbone seeing as it's weaker hardware that costs $100 more. And there's still one reason to never own one if you're concerned about privacy issues. I hope this thing flops hard.

If I recall - It's only very, very slightly weaker - the differences between it and the PS4 are negligible. It also costs $100 more because of the Kinect (which most don't want).

Nah, this stuff about privacy is just bullshit.

Supposing they do it, what will change because of that? Who can say that old technology, like telephone, wasn't listened and recorded thirty years ago? What about cell phone calls? What about actual internet? What about google users, or worse, google lovers...

People really will not stop buying because these weak arguments. The used game sales was a big thing, but the bad Kinect spying on us (actually only USA people, I suppose) is not.
They fixed the used game thing, so, there's no reason for anyone to buy a ps4.
