Which Browser Are You Using?
Which Browser Are You Using?
To kick off things in the lounge, I'd love to know what you guys are rocking for a web browser nowadays.
For a few years, I was all Firefox. Then after I bought a Mac in 2007, I was a heavy Safari user. That didn't change until the last year or so, when I started using and loving Chrome. Chrome is quick, minimalist, and has some great extensions. I like how each tab has a separate process.
Firefox seemed to lag until the FF4 release. With FF4, I've been using Firefox again, and taking advantage of the themes and addons. So I'm back and forth between Chrome and FF, and think they're both great.
I also used Opera 11 for a brief period and thought it was good, although I didn't like it as much as FF or Chrome, and Safari is always good, but Apple could really do to give it a major update.
IE9 is apparently making things interesting for IE again. I don't think I'd ever go back to IE, though, even though I dual-boot with Windows.
So what about you guys?

Willing to play Bomberman, Duke Nukem 3d, Virtual On, Sega Rally. Send me a PM.
Why can't I select several?
At all times, I'm running both Firefox 3 (because I haven't shut it down long enough to upgrade it to 4 yet) and Chrome. Chrome has become my primary browser of choice, as it handles the hundreds of tabs I have open simultaneously without slowing down my computer as badly as does Firefox 3. Again, haven't tested 4 yet, so we'll see how that goes eventually. Whenever the next time I restart my computer is, which may not be for another few months.
I'll also open Safari occasionally when I need to do something that isn't working on Chrome or Firefox. There was one time when I had a ton of tabs open in all three, though...
And I refuse to use IE anymore. Ever.

Sort of OT, but the NetFront browser (default on Sony PSP), was and has been very impressive to me since it became available in late 2005/early 2006.

Re: Which Browser Are You Using?
I've been using firefox for years. Haven't really tried the alternatives much. I downloaded and used chrome for a few days, but that was only because you could play Angry Birds for free once you did that lol. I didn't like that game much either haha. Chrome seemed alright though.

Re: Which Browser Are You Using?
hahaha It was my default when I purchased my pc so I never changed it. Well... I had chrome for a while but my bro deleted it -_- I'll have to change it soon now tho, youtube doesnt support it soon
Better run home to momma now!
Re: Which Browser Are You Using?
IE7 is insecure, slow, and doesn't support many newer standards. I personally like Chrome a lot, and I've heard good things about Opera.

Re: Which Browser Are You Using?
You can upgrade to IE8 if you are on a WinXP environment or IE9 for Vista and beyond.
Takes a couple of clicks...
Today I'm in IE6 through my Win2000 machine.
When I setup my Saturn again I'll surf a bit through the PlanetWeb. It's so cool! (=
I don't think any browser is a bad choice. You generally know what you are doing, like shopping and banking stuff... If you don't, well, maybe the software is not the issue...

Progressing standards are still an issue, though. I don't know how much banking you could do on a Saturn these days, seeing as it doesn't comply with current web standards.Rogue wrote:I don't think any browser is a bad choice. Re: Which Browser Are You Using?
Well, maybe my engrish sentence make you misunderstood my meaning. But I've meant that you usually don't do banking and shopping stuff in an "insecure", "outdated" browser, because if you do, that's not a "bad browser", but a "bad decision" in the first place.
And there are "things" that you do (like clicking, installing things) that no browser will stand for you.
*Of course the bank site doesn't even open in the PlanetWeb. n.n

Re: Which Browser Are You Using?
I consider the words "decision" and "choice" to be nearly synonymous. I never said the words "bad browser"... I said that it was a horrible choice of browser to use.
