NetLink and Xband Navigation Videos

Post by Xband411 »

I was just browsing some videos on YouTube, and thought it was interesting to see the evolution from the Xband navigational menu to the NetLink navigational menu.

Both have great music, and unique user images too. Fun times...[/url]

Nice. I was comparing the Genesis one to my Saturn when I picked it up.
I have my Saturns, I have some of my games, I have a RasPi. Gotta put all this stuff together!

I just wish we had the Genesis Xband interface online to compare with the others. At least the music, which was also unique and different.

Here's another SNES version video, but it's hard to see:

Here's an industry promo... notice the lack of labels and the SNES XBand being plugged into the Genesis...

If people REALLY want a video of the Genesis XBand... I think I could make one.

I'd sure want to see a Genesis video with the background music!

Also, another SNES Xband Vid of the Character Selection Screen:

Okay, I'll see if I can make one. Give me a bit... I'm going to have to score some kind of recording device off of someone.

I borrowed a VHS to PC recording device that works rather well from a co-worker. It certainly wouldn't do good with Hollywood VHS tapes, but does just fine for home recordings. Hope you're able to find one soon!

You can browse around on an Xband now, sure. But you can't connect to the server to get the Xband News Information or add players to your contact list.

Only if you want one for your collection. At this time, there's no good way to use it to play with someone else on the SNES or the Genesis, as the service it connected to to match you with other players has been down for well over a decade.

Some of us are working on ways to make the Xband useable again, but we don't know if we'll succeed or not. Right now all you can do with it is look through the menus. As an unintended feature, you can also use them to get around the cartridge shape region protection on the SNES.

Yeah, it'd be nothing more than a collectors item now. If you can find it for under $5, sure, why not pick it up? Any more than that and it isn't worth it.

We're working on it. We have several different ideas, but nothing that actually works yet. One of our ideas is getting the Xband to dial up another person's Xband directly, without attempting to dial up the Xband service. There's some problems with this plan, though. As I said, we're working on it.
