sega broadband adaptor ebay

Post by segasaturndude »

are sega broadband adaptors suppose to have the LAN logo on them? i dont believe they are suppose to but this guy on ebay is selling on and it says broadband adator for the listing but when a picture of the item is shown it says lan on it, but then on one side it says hit-0400 which should mean its a broadband adaptor and not a lan adaptor. should i buy it??

It's another name that people use for it. It's the right item, either way.
I have my Saturns, I have some of my games, I have a RasPi. Gotta put all this stuff together!

Yes it should say LAN. And that's also the model you want.

"HIT-0400: "Broadband Adapter", the more common model, this used a Realtek 8139 chip and supported 10 and 100 Mbit speeds.
HIT-0300: "LAN Adapter", this version used a Fujitsu MB86967 chip and supported only 10 Mbit speed. This adapter is not compatible with any Dreamcast games and worked only with the included Japanese browser disk."
from Wikipedia.

Aw, that was mine  Shame it went for so low, hopefully the guy joins the online community i pointed out to him.

Oddly enough Sega even gave the paperwork that came with the unit a HK code (0401 iirc)

Found one here for ~$150: http://www.estarland.com/product29025.html

Still trying to decide if it's really worth it or not :?

It's only really worth it if you:
-rip your own games
-play lots of the online games that support it
-use the web browser extensively
-develop code for the Dreamcast

I wonder how many people still do. Getting more obscure, I wonder if there are any brave souls left traversing the internet on their NetLink.

I still think about buying one every now and then just to try. I know there are people that still play Quake on weekends. Although since they ported Quake Arena to Xbox Live im not sure how many still do.

I used to play Q3A on the Dreamcast through dial-up, even though at the time I had cable broadband access at my house. There was just a sheer coolness factor to playing Q3A on a Dreamcast that I couldn't get over. If Broadband Adapters weren't so damn expensive, I'd buy one just to try it.
