Dreamcast Tournament

Post by GLAKENATOR »

Ok guys, this time i'm serious about these match-ups..I want to try to get a Quake 3 tournament going in a few weeks. I'm thinking double-loss tourney, winner receives something, I don't know what just yet, but there will be a prize.

Anyway if you didnt know DC can still be used online so if you are interested, check out the thread that explains how to get online, and drop a message in here and let us know availability, interest in the tourney, and what you think the prize should be..

This is serious this time, if enough people want to play, we'll do it.

This is a great idea. More people on board, the better. I have to find a dial-up ISP, but i'm sure things can be done. I'd love to play Quake 3 online for DC again. Let's go guys.

How about using the modem? I'm interested in using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) with Quake 3. This could be a potential solution for those of us who don't want to have to use the 56k modem or find a dial-up service.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm up for it.

Sidenote: I was playing this last weekend, and realized....I'm really freakin' terrible at this game :)

Hi all,

I am certainly up for this, but time zones might possibly be an issue, any ideas what times people will be available?

Yeah you could share your broadband connection with the DC, although this can be pretty difficult to get working and usually requires a line voltage simulator, which can be made pretty easily and cheaply....however like I say, many people have endless problems getting this to work correctly for games, not to mention the fact that there has been even less success with anything later than Windows 98 or ME.

Personally I will just be connecting with my lovely shiny Broadband adapter and still get fragged to death as I am so bad at this game....although if we all use controllers I may have a chance :)

Actually in all truth it might be best to have 3 rules:

1. Controller play only
2. Dreamcast players only not PC (defeats the object a bit)
3. Modem only

As much as I hate to say modem only it makes it fairer, the only problem is though, if we did do it modem only I would be very restricted as to when I could play as I cant tie up the phone line...hmmm worth considering though, what do you all think?

Cheers, Craig

It's definitely worth considering. Now I just have to find a free Dial-up ISP, if those are even around anymore.

OK so so far we've got me, xranger, blueshinobi, segadreamcaster, and cidus. I guess to accomodate everyone maybe an 7 or 8 O'clock Eastern time match?

Anyone else want to play?

Yeah, that's what im wondering too. A long time ago I used to be able to find a few free, albeit unreliable ones. I haven't looked in quite a while, so i'll have to search again.

free dial-up accounts are around, although they are getting rarer from what I can gather...however I am not really the correct person to comment as free dial-up up ISP's are not avilable here in the UK :( so I don't pay all that much attention....no fair I have to pay...typical
