Hi there. I just got another Sega Saturn. I have a couple of games on the way and I'm in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. I have shaw internet and phone. Can I connect with that service to netlink? Sorry I'm new to this and would love to join you guys if I can figure out how it works.
Re: New netlink player
The "service", as you put it, is a direct connection from one Saturn to another via analog phone service. One Saturn dials the other. Each player needs a NetLink modem for their system, a copy of one of the five NetLink-compatible games, and analog (POTS) phone service. Digital phone service very rarely produces successful, stable connections. I don't know what Shaw offers. If your phone service is connected in any way to a cable box, it's not going to be analog.Bay78 wrote:Hi there. I just got another Sega Saturn. Re: New netlink player
Hi there, well looks like it may not work for me then. My phone service does plug into a cable or some type of box. I will have to switch to a different phone company if I want it to work. But that being said it might be worth a shot.
Re: New netlink player
It's really a shame. Internet-driven digital phone service is cheap and lets you make nearly infinite long-distance calls, which is great for a NetLink gamer... except for the fact that those connections are rarely stable enough for the NetLink modem to play a game over. Plain Old Telephone Systems are analog and more likely to give the stability you need... but owning them and using them, especially for long-distance calls... usually isn't nearly as cheap.
