Emailing through NetLink

Post by Rogue »

Hey!

Someone here knows any email server we can use in the PlanetWeb Browser?

Last time I've tried I couldn't send emails. Reading was ok.

I think it's something about a secure SMTP server. To use it on PlanetWeb, we need a "less secure" one. It's not really a less secure one, but something about authentication when sending an email.

The POP3 was ok. It's possible to read and delete messages in the server.

I've tried with brazilian email servers only.

I'll keep trying. I want at least to try some times a fully functional email feature through the NetLink.

=)

I think SMTP is a no-go. The NetLink really only handles standard Pop3 for in and out, as far as I know.
Willing to play Bomberman, Duke Nukem 3d, Virtual On, Sega Rally. Send me a PM.

O.o

But the email works this way...

SMTP sends... POP3 access the box...

The SMTP server is needed to send any email.

For the PlanetWeb Browser we need a SMTP server that don't need authentication while sending. It's someting like that. =/

The Yahoo! Help says this:
Yahoo! wrote:Want to use another email program to send and receive Yahoo! Mail messages? If so, you'll be asked to designate a new incoming (POP3) mail server and a new outgoing (SMTP) mail server.

Here are the basic server settings for Yahoo! Mail:

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995)

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)

Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")

Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., user@yahoo.com)

Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Notice the BOLD "use authentication". That's why the PlanetWeb can't send Yahoo! mails...

All the emails I've tried needs that...

Yes its and issue and something that has been causing trouble for Dreamcast users as well....you have to find a provider that does not require the new security procedures. They are about but may take some searching

Sorry to bump an old topic - but what kind of setup would be needed to achieve this?

If its possible I'd be happy to setup an e-mail hosting program on my Saturn site for Netlink (and SegaNet) users. Could probably do Dreamcast as well.

I haven't tried this on my Saturn yet, but my Inbox.com email account works great on my Dreamcast (over BBA and Dial Up). I know both servers, incoming and outgoing, don't require a secure connection.
Currently have:
Duke Nukem 3D
Saturn Bomberman
Virtual On: Netlink Edition

Just PM me, IM me, or the like if you'd like to play with me, I'll respond as soon as I can!
