What's your top 5?

Post by dbdrummer88 »

I would like to hear from everyone on the site to get their opinion on their top 5 favorite games on the saturn. I am looking into expanding my collection and would like to get a good idea as to which games I should be looking out for.

I haven't played many Saturn games... and the few I have played are fairly well-known. But here's a few that I know I enjoy anyway:

-Sega Rally Championship (Netlink Edition)
-Daytona USA CCE (Netlink Edition)
-the Panzer Dragoons

I'm intrigued by NiGHTs... I think Bomberman will probably be fun once I play it more... if I could read Policenauts I bet I'd enjoy it... one of these days I should play Magic Knight Rayearth and the Phantasy Star Collection... and Grandia...
I have my Saturns, I have some of my games, I have a RasPi. Gotta put all this stuff together!

I'm really surprised how popular D is among Saturn owners. Anyway I really want to play NiGHTS....just don't have the cash at the moment. Oh well.

D is a old school point and click horror. Its succesful but like Myst, its either you are into it or you are not. I havent played it all the way through but its nice.

Has anyone played Enemy Zero yet? Similar (same character) but different storyline and varied gameplay. Its on my must play list. Heard it was quite good and its cool the creator said screw you Sony when they wanted the Playstation version toned down.

Enemy Zero is very interesting but, for me at least, wickedly difficult. I enjoyed D2 on Dreamcast as well.

You need to play through D at least twice to see the alternate ending.

I wonder why Warp's games always have a blonde woman character named Laura?

Im glad you put down Sega Touring Car Scooter. I have that on my list as well. Such an underrated game that came out later and much after Sega Rally had dominated the system.

Don't expect STC to equal Sega Rally, but it's good. The driving controls are very unforgiving!

If you'd like to drive all the hidden built in tracks for the "special events" I can look up and post the info. What you have to do is reset your Saturn's date to specific dates and then enter the special events section in the menu. The tracks were only available on single dates in time. The idea was that everyone worldwide would run the track at the same time and post their times on a Sega website. The winner of each race got some pretty big prizes, don't remember the details.

For me, only one of the alternate tracks was really interesting. The others were more "gamish". For example, in one you needed to mow down a line of cones set up around the entire track. Each cone adds a few seconds to your time clock, miss a cone and you lose time and there's not enough time to double back and get it. Another, I think, was to drive a race with reversed controls (left is right, right is left). Still, kind of cool to discover these hidden items in the game.

I guess there were three special event tracks, not four. You can do the date trick, but I guess there's a cheat:

From the Option menu, quickly enter XYZXYZYX then:
-X+START - 1st special event track
-Y+START - 2nd special event track
-Z+START - 3rd special event track

I can't find the third, but the first special event track can be accessed by putting in the date 2/13/98, 9:00am and the third track can be accessed by putting in the date 3/31/98, 6:00pm.
