Japanese Net Game with US Modem?

I recently purchased a Japanese copy of Saturn Bomberman, but it turned out to be a version that can play over the modem.

Can I use a US Modem and play online with my Japanese game, or is the code different?

I really doubt you'd be able to do that. The two modems are different speeds and work differently.
