Re: Carters Retro Reviews
Man, ya know I thought so too. But people didn't dig it so whatever. It's not gimmicky enough for a wider audience and people didn't know me as a person to care or they saw the intro of some guy talking into his webcam and tuned out before I got a word in. I do feel like I need to re-do some of my early reviews. Which will happen once I have reviewed every single game I got. So...one day? Maybe.

Re: Carters Retro Reviews
Carter I actually missed it but you did a review of one of my guilty Saturn pleasures Congo. Back in 95 FPS games still werent very common especially ones taking place in a Jungle. Also being a console/saturn exclusive FPS I wanted it even more. I never got it until he 2000s when I had my own Ebay account but I actually quite enjoy the later levels. But more than anything it just appeals to me as an old FPS fan/Congo fan.
If you arent either of those two things then its almost unbearable. But the further into the game you play it gets more interesting and easier to figure out where you need to go. Like most retro FPS, they dont age well enough to be played for the first time in 2013. Although Id say Powerslave for the Saturn still holds up incredibly well and is worth playing ... even Duke and Quake.

Re: Carters Retro Reviews
Hey Derek, I liked Doom (on PC and not Saturn) and that was around the same era. I also like Duke 3D, Quake and Wolf 3D. I did not like this game. I am keen on Powerslave. Someone PM'ed me on YT after I posted my Congo reviewed and suggested if I was after a good FPS for the console apart from Duke3D to try it because it still holds up.
Part of me hates to hear this sort of thing. Part of me loves it - a clear 50/50 split on feelings there because now there is this expectation that I am going to like it and what happens if I don't? I kinda feel obliged to then give a positive review. When I reviewed Crusader no Remorse and gave it a negative review, people were trying to tell me how I was wrong. You're always going to get that but there is this hidden pressure to like a game when I get strong recommendations. And Congo is not one of them - sorry Derek.
But the part of me that loves this is the part that is excited for a potentially good game. Because what happens if it is a good game? Expectation has been met, I am satisfied and the review comes easy.

Re: Carters Retro Reviews
Keep in mind I may be the only person in the world that likes Congo and its heavily based on nostalgia, my love for subsaharan Africa AND old school fps AND the sega saturn. So you have a lot of crazy far fetched variables lol.
Powerslave is great because once again it started as a saturn exclusive. Its also known as the best version by critics. Its nice when the Saturn got the upper hand in the US release market. Its also called Exhumed if its easier to get a PAL UK copy. Labotomoy was one of the only companies to give Sega its full attention near the end. It converted Quake and DUke 3d to the Saturn. Both versions still to me and many others are the best versions on consoles (at the time)

Re: Carters Retro Reviews
I'll check it out when I can afford it. Every time I see it listed, it is always listed when I have no money or at the wrong price. I saw a near-mint condition game go for $60 and I wasn't sure if that was a good price or not.
