Re: Sega netlink in Russia
May I use Netlink modem with NTSC/J Sega saturn? It will physically fit in the slot - I don't believe there's any type of region locking on Saturn peripherals. However, peripherals will only activate if there's software designed to use them. I have a Japanese MPEG decoder card in my NTSC/U Saturn, ...

I was trying do do my own spin on that mod on one of my Saturn 2 systems, but I did some damage to the system and never got around to completing the mod. To this day, it sits in well-labeled pieces, waiting for reassembly.

Re: Sega netlink in Russia
Calls are really that cheap in USA? 20 cents for 20 minutes? It should be something like 10 bucks for minute. Well, anything is overpriced here anyway... I made up some numbers as an example. I didn't make very many long-distance NetLink calls, but a few minutes usually added up to dollars, if I re...

Ah, you've found one of the more complex mods. Most of the simple ones just use some multi-throw switches that people hide on the back of their system. For programming a PIC microcontroller, you'll need a PIC programmer. I think the cheapest one I own was around $50USD? The LED you're referring to i...

Re: Snes/genesis modem today
No. While the NetLink was built off of the XBAND technology, the XBAND used a subscription service model. Basically, you paid Catapult (the owners of the service) a fee for a certain number of matches. Your XBAND would dial up their servers, then their system would match you to an appropriate oppone...

Re: Netlink Newbie
I don't know if there's an actual kit for a region switch mod, but the parts are easy to acquire and the theory is pretty simple. There are a series of jumper points on the mainboard of the Saturn. Their location and layout varies depending on which model you own. The combination of points that are ...

Re: Sega netlink in Russia
The only cost is the cost of the phone call. There's no cost for playing the game. If your phone company charges twenty cents for you to call a friend for a 20-minute phone call, then it will cost twenty cents for a 20-minute game over the phone line.

I like the classic racing games most of all. I'd like to try Bomberman, but never got a game of it going.

Only for the web browser. The games do not use an ISP. The games directly dial your opponent.Rainbow-dead wrote:Thanks guys. But i have next questin: Can i connect with method like PC-DC, but on Saturn?

Re: Introduce Yourself!!
If you don't have analog land lines ... which you probably don't... don't give up hope. Look into the phone line simulator. I've recently lost access to an analog land line but totally intend to get a phone line simulator set up one of these days to host some gaming events myself. Which is great fo...

Re: Sega netlink in Russia
If you want to play the NetLink games, you do not need a dial-up ISP. You will need an analog (POTS) phone line and the telephone number of the opponent you wish to play with. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer companies offer analog phone service, and it is usually more expensive than digital phone ser...

Re: Introduce Yourself!!
Welcome to the forums! Do you really have a NetLink-compatible version of Daytona on the way? Those are usually quite rare and expensive! Also, one doesn't so much "go online" with the NetLink, unless they're trying to use the web browser. Playing games is done via directly dialing up an o...
