Yeah!

Return Fire originally came out for the 3DO, and was a bit like Mass Destruction, but with a bit more flag capturing. Actually a lot more. Quite a decent game, it was, and a Saturn version was completed, then scrapped. This is sort of the "lost" Saturn game, you might say, though there are a few more. Here's why the project was never completed, according to the developer, Prolific.
"The game was finished for the Sega Saturn. At about that time, Hitachi made a Saturn system that was not 100% compatible with Sega's, and the game did not run correctly on it.

We were asked to make the changes which would allow it to run on the "HI-Saturn," and after a bit of back-and-forth, we even received a loaner HI-Saturn test system. But, did not do this work because the project was stopped because the publisher did not believe the Saturn was going to make it. The Saturn version of Return Fire was therefore never manufactured on "protected" CDs and therefore never released."

But the game was finished, and through a lot of legwork, Mr. Saturn at Sega-Saturn.net has released it for download. You must have a chipped saturn (or emulator I suppose) in order to make this work. The game ships with a crapload of languages: english, german, french, spanish, portuguese, japanese, italian, korean, arabic, and russian. There's also full cover art and documentation if you want to make an actual retail-like version. Very cool news for Saturn fans - a new, full game in 2007!

Here you can make your own version: http://www.sega-saturn.net/returnfire.htm

You can try the Swap Trick...

Mine is unmodded too... ^^

For now I'm only downloading and will try to make my "retail version"!

This is great! I still haven't gone the modded route (I've got the old system, and shipping is a bitch on those eBay listings) but I'll definitely tag this and try some swap action. It's a great feeling isn't it, to see a system like the Saturn releasing new games like it was never even gone. Props to Mr. Saturn, for sure.

I wonder what was so different about the Hitachi-Hi Saturn besides the added components and features. I'm curious if any other games have issues with it, as I know the skeleton Saturns have issues with a few games.

What is the swap trick? lol

Since you're talking about the other Saturn, I take it it had other parts different from the US Saturn that could read more things or something?

Scroll down to the swap trick part. I'd only suggest trying it if you have a model 1 Saturn....with a model 2 you really need split second timing.

If your ready determined to play this game, either mod your Saturn or play on one of the Saturn emulators.

Ok, so you don't know what Swap Trick is... XD

Here's an 1 minute video showing it:

EDIT here, a better video to show it working:

And here's an 8 minutes video teaching it, from brazillian guys (I don't know them =P):

Also, in the page of the game download there's a tutorial... u.u

But remeber, the Swap Trick can damage the engine that rotates the CD, if you don't take care.

And it needs practice, hardly you'll make it work in the first try...

And, I never did it, cause I don't like piracy... If I wanted CDrs I could bought a modded Saturn or a chip, it's not that hard to find... I've seen ten or more chips since I bought my Saturn...

And yes, I'll need one in the future for playing this game, of course... =D
But I'll buy other Saturn for that, cause I'll never mod my Saturn... ^^'

* Hey, I'm a little busy right now, so if you wanna know what the guys in the movie are saying, just post here and tomorrow I'll put a translation...

Okay, I've downloaded the file, what do I do now? Do I simply burn it to a CD or is there more to it than that? (Aside from putting a mod chip in my Saturn?)

Wow, I'm gonna have to try this when I get home. Btw, now that the Articles/Screenshots/Videos are up, anybody feel like submitting a review/screenshots? :)

Hey,

It's a very easy burn, simply burn it as you would any other similar image file, I used Alcohol 120% and it came out fine, but you should also be able to use Nero and probably others as well.

Obviously you do need a method of playing copies, but other than thats its straight forward
